PM Modi departs for Poland: First Indian Prime Minister to visit in 45 years
PTC News Desk: In an effort to strengthen bilateral relations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Poland on Wednesday. There, he will meet with President Andrzej Duda and his counterpart Donald Tusk. In forty-five years, this will be the first visit to Poland by an Indian prime minister.
With PM Modi’s visit, Poland and India are commemorating 70 years of establishing diplomatic ties. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a significant diplomatic journey, marking his first visit to Poland and Ukraine. The visit, starting with Poland, comes as part of a broader diplomatic effort to strengthen ties and address regional conflicts.

Modi’s visit to Kyiv, Ukraine, is scheduled for August 23 at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This trip will make Modi the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Ukraine since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, following Ukraine’s independence from the former USSR. Modi expressed his anticipation of discussing ways to enhance bilateral cooperation with President Zelenskyy and to share perspectives on achieving a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
He stated, “I look forward to the opportunity to build upon earlier conversations with President Zelenskyy on strengthening bilateral cooperation and sharing perspectives on the peaceful resolution of the ongoing Ukraine conflict.” He further emphasised, “As a friend and partner, we hope for an early return of peace and stability in the region.”

Modi’s visit follows his recent trip to Moscow, which drew attention from the US and its allies, urging India to leverage its relationship with Russia to promote peace in the region.
Before heading to Ukraine, Modi’s first stop is Poland, where he will commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Poland is a significant economic partner in Central Europe, and Modi’s visit highlights the importance of this relationship. He commented on the visit, “Our mutual commitment to democracy and pluralism further reinforces our relationship. I look forward to meeting my friend Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda to further advance our partnership.”
