Kolkata Doctor Murder Case: Ayushmann Khurrana’s poem strikes a chord, evokes deep emotions
PTC News Desk: The brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata has ignited outrage and despair across India. The horrific incident has prompted an outpouring of anger from various quarters, including Bollywood celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Ayushmann Khurrana, Richa Chadha, Navya Naveli Nanda, Zoya Akhtar, and others, who have expressed their deep concern over the ongoing issue of women’s safety in the country.
Ayushmann Khurrana, known not only for his acting talent but also for his poetic expression, channeled his emotions into a heartfelt poem titled Kaash Main Bhi Ladka Hoti (I Wish I Were a Boy). He shared a video on Instagram in which he recites the poem, voicing the frustrations and fears that many women feel. A poignant excerpt from the poem reads:
“Main bhi bina Kundi lagakar soti, Kaash main bhi ladka hoti, Jhalli banke daudti udti, Saari raat doston ke saath phirti, Kaash main bhi ladka hoti…”
(I would sleep without locking the door, I wish I were a boy. Carefree, I would run and fly, Roaming with friends all night, I wish I were a boy…)
The poem quickly resonated with many on social media, sparking a wave of responses. One user commented, “Thank you, the fraternity appreciates your support so much.” Another expressed, “In an industry where everyone always stays silent, this is gold!” Others praised Ayushmann for speaking out, with comments like, “Thank you so much for speaking up, unlike most others who have decided to keep their mouth shut,” and “Heart-wrenching!”
For those unfamiliar with the tragic case, the woman’s bruised body was discovered in a seminar hall of the hospital last Friday. She had been on duty the previous night. The autopsy report revealed that she had been sexually assaulted by more than one person before her murder.
In response to the widespread public outrage, the Calcutta High Court ordered on Tuesday that the investigation be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). On Wednesday night, women across Bengal and other parts of the country organized protest rallies, demanding justice for the slain doctor and a broader call for improved safety and security for women nationwide.
