CBI to investigate physical assault-murder case of trainee doctor in Kolkata

PTC News Desk: The investigation into the rape and death of a trainee doctor in Kolkata was given to the CBI by the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday.

The parents of the trainee doctor were presenting a plea to a division bench led by Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam. They wanted a court-monitored investigation into the issue. There were also several more applications filed asking for a CBI investigation into it.

The High Court noted the probe’s shortcomings in its ruling and stated that, even after five days, there had been no appreciable advancement in the inquiry. According to the court, the victim’s parents are afraid that if the probe is permitted to go on in this way, it would go awry.

The bench added as it turned over the case to the CBI, “We would be well justified in accepting the victim’s parents’ wishes that the evidence would be destroyed if there was no major progress in the probe.

On August 9, in the early hours of the day, the postgraduate trainee’s body was discovered in a seminar hall at the RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata. The following day, Sanjay Roy, a volunteer for the community, was taken into custody in relation to the crime. He was taken into custody and told the police what he had done.

The woman had damage marks on other portions of her body and was bleeding from her privates, according to a four-page autopsy report on the deceased.
