6.9 magnitude earthquake strikes southern Japan, tsunami warning issued

PTC News Desk: On Thursday, a strong earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale rattled the southwest islands of Shikoku and Kyushu in western Japan. Public broadcaster NHK stated that authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have issued a tsunami warning for multiple places.

The initial magnitude of the earthquake was 6.9, according to an earlier NHK report.

For the prefectures of Miyazaki, Kochi, Oita, Kagoshima, and Ehime, a tsunami advisory has been issued. Twenty centimeter waves had already been seen in the Miyazaki prefecture on Kyushu, according to news agency Reuters, which quoted NHK.
