Russia: Man dies fighting for Russia; wife struggles to bring his body back to Amritsar
PTC News Desk: Parminder Kaur has been living a life of pillar to post ever since learning on June 9 that her husband, Tejpal Singh, was killed in battle while fighting for Russian forces on the Ukrainian front.
Parminder, an Amritsar resident, claimed she had received a request from the Indian embassy in Moscow for her husband’s relative’s DNA result so that his remains could be recognised and sent home.
But since then, all she’s done is run from one office to another. Parminder complained, “I am treated rudely and ignored everywhere.”
“When I went to the government hospital to get my DNA tested, they told me they needed police clearance and sent me to the police station. Instead of granting my request, the police laughed at those who go overseas and suffer similar outcomes. They argued that individuals such as ourselves were causing them undue stress,” she asserted.
Parminder stated that she had made the request to the Amritsar Sadar police station. SHO Palwinder Singh of the Amritsar Sadar police station verified, when called, that Parminder had arrived on July 24 with the request; however, he was not in the office at that time. She couldn’t remember the name of the official she had interacted with at the police station, he claimed, but he had asked her about it. The SHO continued, “We are prepared to assist and address her issue at any time.”

Parminder said that she had been forced to wait for hours on end in offices. “Everyone has their reasons, so I also approached local politicians, but I received no assistance,” the woman claimed.
Parminder stated that she must take care of her in-laws and two children. “Having to wait in these muggy conditions is intolerable. She claimed, “I don’t understand why they aren’t listening to me,” and that she felt embarrassed each time she went to a government office to discuss her application.
She mentioned that she had communication with two additional families, one from Hyderabad and one from Haryana, whose men had suffered a similar fate. “One of them has the Russian corpse and even the money that the Russians offered,” the woman stated.
Ranjit Singh Dhillon, the commissioner of police in Amritsar, denied knowing anything about the situation and stated the woman had not sought him. “Any issue brought to my attention will receive prompt attention,” he asserted.
