Bihar special status, NEET, Kanwar order: Key points from the all-party meeting
PTC News Desk: The Opposition made its intentions apparent by bringing up contentious subjects like the NEET-UG dispute and the Kanwar order controversy at an all-party meeting, setting the stage for yet another turbulent Parliament session for the Central government.
The Congress is said to have brought up the topic of giving the Opposition the deputy speaker position during the all-party meeting that the Center arranged prior to the Parliamentary Budget Session. The intense NEET-UG controversy and the purported abuse of government agencies like the ED and CBI were also brought up by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi.
Along the Kanwar Yatra route, Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav reportedly brought up the UP government’s directive requiring shopkeepers to post their names outside of their establishments.
Rajnath Singh, the minister of defence, presided over the all-party meeting.
Jairam Ramesh, a Congress MP, asserted that the TDP did not call for Andhra Pradesh to have special status. But he added that JDU, an ally of the BJP, brought up the subject of Bihar’s unique status.

“The leader of JD(U), under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, called for the special category status of Bihar during today’s all-party conference of floor leaders. The leader of the YSRCP sought that Andhra Pradesh be given special category status. It’s odd that the TDP leader remained silent about it,” he remarked on X.
The meeting was still in progress when Ramesh posted something on social media. A resolution calling for Bihar to be given special category status was recently voted by JD(U), a significant ally in the ruling NDA.
Following Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju’s request for support from all parties to ensure the smooth operation of the two Houses, Gaurav Gogoi stated during the meeting that the Opposition should be permitted to bring up problems in the Parliament.
The TDP government’s purported targeting of the YSR Congress’s leaders in Andhra Pradesh was discussed. The leaders who attended the traditional meeting included BJP president J P Nadda, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, Union minister and LJP (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan, Asaduddin Owaisi of AIMIM, RJD’s Abhay Kushwaha, JD(U)’s Sanjay Jha, AAP’s Sanjay Singh, SP leader Ramgopal Yadav, and NCP’s Praful Patel.
On Tuesday, Nirmala Sitharaman, the minister of finance, will announce the Union Budget. On Monday, she is scheduled to present the Economic Survey to the Parliament.
