‘He was very happy when I got out for 0’: Abhishek Sharma video calls Yuvraj Singh after scoring his first T20I century for India
PTC News Desk: After scoring a fierce century against Zimbabwe in the second Twenty20 International at Harare on Sunday, Abhishek Sharma has been the talk of the country. Abhishek, who had started the T20Is as a duck, went on a rampage, blasting the joint third-fastest century by an Indian and laying the groundwork for India’s decisive 100-run victory over the hosts.
Abhishek, 23, had the most exciting 48 hours of his life, breaking numerous records while being named Player of the Match, receiving his India cap, and being out for zero runs before smashing a century off of 46 balls.
Abhishek made two special video calls following the game: one to his instructor Yuvraj Singh in England, and another to his family in India. Two-time World Cup winner Yuvraj, who has been instrumental in his development, is presently leading the India Champions in the World Championship of Legends League in England. Nevertheless, Yuvraj answered Abhishek’s call and showered his protégé with praises: “Very proud! Very proud of you, well done. You’re worthy of it. Many more are yet to come. This is only the beginning.”
While this was a very important moment for Abhishek, he also disclosed that Yuvraj was ‘extremely glad’ that the 23-year-old was removed from the game without posing a threat to the scorers in the opening Twenty20 International on Saturday.

“We had a conversation yesterday as well. He was overjoyed when I got out for zero, for reasons I cannot fathom. He said, ‘That’s a nice start,’ but I believe he is, like my family, really proud. It is all his fault. the years’ worth of effort he has invested into me. He has been putting in a lot of effort in all areas of his life, not just cricket. outside of the field as well.”
It helped Abhishek bounce back from his first T20I defeat that the second game was played less than twenty-four hours after the first. Abhishek went on a rampage, hitting eight sixes and seven fours in as many balls as he could after he took the opening ball of the Indian innings for six. After being dropped in the seventh over and managing to escape with a DRS reprieve in the 12th, Abhishek unleashed a merciless display of violence, hitting a hat-trick of sixes to reach his century.
It was simply the kind of blow that everyone has come to expect from Abhishek. Who can forget his heroics (484 runs) for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League or his 485 runs during Punjab’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy championship run?
“One advantage was that since the next game was the next day, we didn’t have much time to prepare for it. I gave it a shot as soon as I sensed there was a bowler I could target. I really wanted to go out there and express myself because I was in the zone. Additionally, I chatted with Rutu [Ruturaj Gaikwad]. He said the same thing to me. “Seek out whatever lies within your arc.” “Don’t worry too much about balls,” Abhishek stated.
