Putin and Modi are anticipated to discuss ways to deepen bilateral ties in a variety of fields, including as commerce, energy, and defense, during the 22nd India-Russia annual summit on Tuesday.
The highest institutional engagement mechanism in the strategic alliance between India and Russia is the yearly summit between the two nations’ presidents. 21 yearly conferences have so far been held alternately in Russia and India.
The most recent summit took place in New Delhi on December 6, 2021. In order to attend the meeting, Putin travelled to India. Putin has made nine trips to India while serving as the head of state of Russia.
On September 16, 2022, President Putin and Prime Minister Modi had their most recent bilateral meeting outside of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
“We are not living in a time of war,” Modi had told Putin, urging an end to the crisis in Ukraine. The prime minister has spoken by phone with Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, on multiple occasions.
India has insisted that diplomacy and communication are the only ways to settle the situation and has not yet denounced Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. On Tuesday, Modi will make his first visit to Austria as prime minister of India since more than 40 years, departing from Russia.
