Major setback for SAD, as candidate Surjit Kaur joins AAP
PTC News Desk: SAD’s Jalandhar West by-poll candidate, Surjit Kaur, joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today in the presence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
This move comes after the Akali Dal had already withdrawn its support for Surjit Kaur, citing her association with the rebel group that has revolted against the party president, Sukhbir Singh Badal.
The rebel faction of Akali Dal has suffered a significant setback with Surjit Kaur’s defection to AAP. The Shiromani Akali Dal had previously announced its support for the BSP candidate, while Surjit Kaur had been backed by the rebel faction.
In response to Surjit Kaur’s switch to AAP, Shiromani Akali Dal senior leader Dr. Diljit Singh Cheema remarked that the true intentions of the rebels have now been exposed. He accused the rebels of creating circumstances that led to Surjit Kaur’s defection to AAP, suggesting they orchestrated this move to damage the party’s standing.
