Rohit Sharma expresses gratitude to PM Narendra Modi for supportive comments on T20I retirement
PTC News Desk: After the Indian team and he lifted the T20 World Cup trophy in the West Indies and the United States, Rohit Sharma expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, on Saturday, May 29, the Men in Blue defeated Aiden Markram’s South Africa by 7 runs, ending their 11-year drought for an ICC title.
India was under pressure to defend 176, but their bowlers remained composed and came through with the win. As the top run scorer in the shorter format, Rohit announced his retirement from T20Is following the game. Following India’s victory, PM Modi congratulated Rohit on a fantastic T20I career and said he was happy to have spoken with him previously.

After that, the 37-year-old Rohit declared his happiness, stating that Team India had made millions of people in the nation happy.
In response, Rohit wrote to the PM, saying, “I sincerely appreciate your nice comments, @narendramodi sir. The happiness the cup has brought to everyone back home makes the team and I very happy to be able to carry it home.

Rohit Sharma’s delightful T20 World Cup
In terms of the tournament’s top run scorers, Rohit had a particularly strong run, placing him second. With a strike-rate of 156.70, an average of 36.71, three half-centuries, and a career-high score of 92, the veteran has amassed 257 runs in 8 games.
Apart from Rohit, veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and former captain Virat Kohli also made the decision to hang up their boots from Twenty20 Internationals.
