Man allegedly extorts Rs 2 crore from Prajwal Revanna’s brother with false assault threat: Report
PTC News Desk: An aide to Karnataka MLC Suraj Revanna, the older brother of Prajwal Revanna, the accused of sexual assault, has said to the police that he and a family member tried to coerce the lawmaker into giving money by threatening to file a fictitious sexual assault case. Following receipt of the allegation, the police have now booked the pair.
The allegation was lodged against Chethan K S and his brother-in-law by Shivakumar, a close aide of Suraj Revanna. In a countercomplaint, Chethan K. S. charged Suraj Revanna with sexual assault. Suraj Revanna is the grandson of former prime minister HD Dewe Gowda and the son of Holenarasipura MLA H D Revanna.
Shivakumar claimed in the lawsuit that Chethan joined the ‘Suraj Revanna Brigade’ and became his friend. When Shivakumar declined Chethan’s recent request for money to cover family costs, the accused threatened to file a police report, alleging Suraj Revanna had sexually assaulted him.
Shivakumar stated that Chethan reduced his original demand of ₹5 crore to Rs 2 crore. In relation to Chethan and his brother-in-law, the police have filed a case under IPC sections 34 (involvement of others in the plot), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 384 (extortion).
According to NDTV, Chethan claimed to a private channel that Suraj Revanna had molested him sexually in a farm house.
The Karnataka police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) detained Prajwal Revanna, the brother of the former MP, earlier this month in connection with cases involving hundreds of purportedly lewd videos of the politician. The lawmaker, 33, is being held by the court.
The controversy surfaced after hundreds of pen drives containing obscene movies were distributed throughout Karnataka prior to the Lok Sabha elections in Hassan, the former seat of Prajwal Revanna.
Prajwal Revanna departed India in April, just after his domestic assistant lodged a complaint. Prajwal Revanna has been suspended by the Janata Dal (Secular).
May saw the arrest of their father HD Revanna in connection with an abduction case involving the films of sexual abuse. Bail has been granted, and he is free.
Hassan defeated Revanna in the Lok Sabha elections.
