Putin drives Kim Jong Un in Limousine, later gifts him a car | Watch Video

PTC News Desk: Social media users have taken to sharing a video of Russian President Vladimir Putin chauffeuring Kim Jong-un of North Korea in an Aurus limousine that was manufactured in Russia. In an effort to demonstrate the increasing closeness of the two countries’ leaders. 

The Kremlin chief is shown driving the official presidential vehicle in Russia, a black armored Aurus, with Kim seated in the passenger seat, in the video that was initially made public by Russian state TV. Throughout their trip, the two leaders joke and converse while passing through a well-kept park.

During the lighthearted talk, the leaders took turns driving each other. Following the short drive, the two leaders are next seen talking and strolling side by side down a route through some woods. Reportedly, Putin gave Kim the Russian-made limousine in February of this year, then he gave him the same car again. Kim, who is thought to be an avid car aficionado, currently owns two or more of the vehicles.

Since the export of high-end commodities to North Korea is prohibited by resolutions of the U.N. Security Council, Kim’s collection of expensive foreign cars is likely the result of smuggling. He has been seen driving a Lexus sports utility vehicle, a Rolls-Royce Phantom, a Maybach limousine, and multiple Mercedes.

The official presidential vehicle of Russia is the Aurus Senat, a vintage vehicle modeled after the ZIL limousine from the Soviet era. During Kim’s September visit to Russia last year, Putin showed him one of the cars.

The North Korean leader offered two Pungsan dogs, a native breed, to the Russian President in exchange. In a piece that broadcast on the state-run Korean Central Television on Thursday, Kim and Putin could be seen gazing at the dogs that were tethered to a fence strewn in rose petals. Kim and Putin became friends over animals, with Kim giving carrots to a horse and Putin petting it on the head. 

Along with strengthening their military cooperation, the leaders of North Korea and Russia inked a declaration pledging to defend one another in the event of an attack. Kim Jong Un referred to the new relationships as a “alliance”.
