Monsoon remains weak, likely to advance in 3-4 days: IMD
PTC News Desk: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released advisories stating that the monsoon has not advanced much since June 11. According to the IMD on Friday, the northern edge of the monsoon is still passing over Navsari, Jalgaon, Amravati, Chandrapur, Bijapur, Sukma, Malkangiri, Vizianagaram, and Islampur.
In its Friday bulletin, the IMD stated that over the next four to five days, there is a good chance that the southwest monsoon will continue to advance into additional areas of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Northwest Bay of Bengal, some parts of Gangetic West Bengal, remaining parts of Sub Himalayan West Bengal, and some parts of Bihar.
Over the next four to five days, there is a good chance that heavy to very heavy rainfall, with some extremely heavy downpours, will persist over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Northeast India.
The IMD has issued a warning, stating that heatwave to severe heat wave conditions are anticipated to persist over northern regions of India for an additional four to five days.
For the next three to four days, the monsoon is predicted to stay weak. When it strengthens, it might proceed to West Bengal, Jharkhand, and other places, but it will eventually cross the Himalayan foothills and arrive over Delhi, Haryana, and other regions by the end of the month, according to Mahesh Palawat, vice president of Skymet Weather’s climate and meteorology department.

“There are strong westerly winds.” Over the northwest states, they are preventing moist easterly breezes from passing through. Here, the monsoon won’t begin until the wind direction shifts, Palawat continued.
The city’s official meteorological station, Safdarjung Observatory, recorded a maximum temperature of 44.8 degrees on Thursday.
From June 1 to Friday, there has been a 9 per cent decrease in rainfall, up from 1 per cent on Wednesday. According to the IMD, there is a 9 per cent deficit nationwide, with a 57 per cent deficit in rainfall over northwest India, a 30 per cent deficit over east and northeast India, a 9 per cent deficit over central India, and a 50 per cent excess over Peninsular India.
According to meteorologists, the monsoon’s development is expected to diminish over the course of the next week, intensifying hot conditions over northwest and eastern India, as reported on June 13.
In many or most of Uttar Pradesh, in portions of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi until June 18, in Jharkhand and Uttarakhand until June 15, and in isolated heat wave conditions over western parts of Gangetic West Bengal and Bihar until June 15, the IMD predicts that severe heat wave conditions will occur. Furthermore, it is highly probable that isolated pockets of heat wave conditions will exist in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu Division through June 17, northeast Madhya Pradesh through June 16, north Rajasthan through June 15, and north Chhattisgarh through June 15.
On Thursday, a number of locations in Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, as well as certain areas in west Jharkhand, southwest Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and north Rajasthan, recorded high temperatures between 44 and 47°C.
Meantime, isolated areas of North Interior Karnataka, Konkan and Goa, Telangana, Marathwada, Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal saw heavy to extremely heavy rains.
According to data published by the IMD, 14 out of 36 subdivisions nationwide have recorded over 15 days with heat waves between March 1 and June 9. This summer is shaping up to be one of the longest and most severe on record.
