Narendra Modi’s first message to the ‘global south’ after swearing-in: ‘India will amplify…’

PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the leaders of the nations present at the ceremonial swearing-in event in the nation’s capital on Sunday, only hours after taking office, and he said that India would keep pushing for the region’s peace, development, and prosperity.

PM Modi went on to say that India would keep raising the Global South’s profile internationally.

PM Modi’s swearing-in event was attended by a number of the leaders of India’s neighboring countries, including President Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ of Nepal, and President Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, PM Modi met with the visiting leaders at Rashtrapati Bhavan following the ceremony.

The ministry also stated that PM Modi expressed gratitude to them for coming and reiterated India’s commitment to the “Neighbourhood First” policy and the “SAGAR Vision.”

In a statement, the ministry added that PM Modi assured the leaders that India would keep collaborating closely with these nations to promote regional peace, development, and prosperity under his administration. Additionally, he advocated for improving connectedness and interpersonal interactions inside the area.

“In this context, the prime minister called for deeper people-to-people ties and connectivity in the region. He emphasized that, in his third term, India will continue to work for the peace, progress, and prosperity of the region in close partnership with the countries even as it pursues its goal of Vikshit Bharat by 2047. In the statement from the MEA, he went on to say that India would keep raising the Global South’s profile internationally.

PM Modi thanked the leaders on X after the occasion.

“All of the international dignitaries who attended the swearing-in event have my gratitude. India would always pursue human progress in close collaboration with our esteemed allies,” he posted on the social media platform.

Mohamed Muizzu, the president of the Maldives, is making his first trip to India since taking office. The politician, who was well-known for favoring China, caused tension in the nation’s relations with India when he called for the expulsion of Indian military personnel.

In the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP secured 240 seats, falling 32 seats short of a simple majority. The NDA’s backing by the BJP ensures majority numbers in the lower chamber of Parliament for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third government.

In all, the NDA got 293 seats, many fewer than predicted by the exit polls. With wins in 234 seats, the opposition’s INDIA group outperformed expectations.
