Sunrisers Hyderabad cancel practice ahead of IPL 2024 final against Kolkata Knight Riders
PTC Web Desk: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) decided to cancel their practice session on Saturday ahead of their IPL 2024 final against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), as reported by Hindustan Times.
Sunrisers Hyderabad secured their place in the summit clash by comprehensively defeating Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2. The decision to take a rest day, after playing on Friday, was made to keep the players fit, given Chennai’s high temperatures and humidity. SRH will head straight into the final without an additional practice session.
In contrast, KKR last played on Tuesday, when they defeated SRH in Qualifier 1, giving them a longer break before the final. The Shreyas Iyer-led team practiced on Friday and planned another net session on Saturday evening from 6 p to 9 pm IST. KKR’s previous two league matches against Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals were abandoned due to rain, prompting extra practice sessions to compensate for the lack of match play.
Meanwhile, Pat Cummins shared his thoughts on SRH’s victory over RR in Qualifier 2. He praised his team’s performance throughout the season and highlighted their strong batting lineup. Cummins also credited Dan Vettori for the strategic decision to bring in Shahbaz as an impact player, focusing on leveraging left-arm orthodox bowlers. He expressed surprise and satisfaction with Abhishek’s effective bowling in the middle overs, which played a crucial role in defending a challenging total of 170. Cummins acknowledged the unpredictable nature of pitch conditions and dedicated the win to the entire franchise team, emphasizing the collective effort behind their successful campaign.
