Farmers to conclude dharna on Shambhu railway track; next strategy to be revealed soon
PTC News Desk: In a significant development, the United Kisan Morcha has announced the conclusion of the dharna on the Shambhu railway track. The farmers have decided to vacate the railway tracks immediately, although their protest on Shambhu road will continue unabated.
The leaders have declared that their next course of action will be unveiled on May 22, during a major gathering at the Shambhu border, Datarwali border, and Khanauri border.
100 Days of Protest
Farmer leaders highlighted that May 22 will mark the 100th day of the ongoing farmers’ movement. To commemorate this milestone, they will convene at the protest sites along the Shambhu, Datarwali, and Khanauri borders to announce their future strategy. This gathering is expected to be significant, bringing together numerous protestors and supporters.
Background of the Protests
The announcement follows the farmers’ plan to march to Delhi on February 13, during which numerous farmers and leaders were detained. The protests on the Shambhu railway track, organized under the banner of United Kisan Morcha Non-Politics and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, were primarily aimed at demanding the release of the detained farmers.
Impact on Rail Services
The dharna on the railway tracks had caused considerable inconvenience to passengers. Many trains were either diverted or canceled, leading to significant disruptions. The Railways incurred an estimated loss of over one crore rupees due to the protests. With the decision to end the dharna, normal railway traffic is expected to resume, providing relief to passengers and restoring the usual rail operations.
Continuing the Struggle
Despite ending the dharna on the railway tracks, the farmers remain committed to their cause. The ongoing protest on Shambhu road will persist, signaling their unwavering resolve. The upcoming announcement on May 22 will be crucial in determining the future direction of the farmers’ movement.
The United Kisan Morcha’s decision reflects a strategic shift, focusing on minimizing public inconvenience while continuing to press for their demands. The gathering on May 22 is anticipated to draw significant attention and possibly escalate the movement to new heights.
