AAP minister Atishi accuses Swati Maliwal of false allegations in assault case; terms it BJP plot against Kejriwal

PTC Web Desk: In a significant development within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), senior leader and minister Atishi Singh on Friday held a press conference in Swati Maliwal assault case, levelling serious charges against the party’s own Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal. Atishi Singh presented a video that she claims disproves Maliwal’s allegations of assault against Bibhav Kumar. She termed it a BJP plot to defame AAP and Arvind Kejriwal.

During the press conference, Atishi alleged that, “The video clearly shows that the statements made in her complaint are completely false. There is no evidence of her clothes being torn or her crying in pain while sitting on the sofa.”

Atishi further alleged that Swati Maliwal attempted to meet Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal without an appointment. “She forcibly tried to meet CM Kejriwal. When she was denied a meeting without an appointment, she started raising her voice,” Atishi claimed.

Atishi accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating a conspiracy. “This is a plot devised by the BJP,” she claimed, adding that “entire incident is politically motivated”.

She alleged that , “Ever since Arvind Kejriwal has got bail, the BJP is rattled. Due to this, the BJP hatched a conspiracy, under which Swati Maliwal was sent to Arvind Kejriwal’s house on the morning of May 13. Swati Maliwal was the face and pawn of this conspiracy. They intended to accuse the CM, but the CM was not there at that time so he was saved. After that, Swati Maliwal accused Bibhav Kumar. In her complaint to the police, she said she was assaulted. The video which has come out today shows her sitting comfortably in the drawing room (of the CM house) and threatening the police officials. She was also seen threatening Bibhav Kumar in the video. Neither her clothes were not torn nor any injury on her head can be seen in the video.”

The controversy erupted after Swati Maliwal filed a complaint with the Delhi Police, alleging that Kejriwal’s personal secretary, Bibhav Kumar, had assaulted her. According to Maliwal’s FIR, she claimed that Kumar slapped her multiple times and subjected her to physical abuse at the Chief Minister’s residence.

The emergence of the purported video clip has brought a new twist to the case, with AAP’s internal rift coming to the forefront.
