Delhi Excise Policy case : Court rejects bail plea of BRS leader K Kavitha

PTC News Desk: The Rouse Avenue court in Delhi has declined the bail plea of BRS leader K Kavitha concerning cases filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) pertaining to alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise case.

K Kavitha, who is the daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate on March 15. Following her arrest, she was remanded to CBI custody until March 23. Subsequently, on April 11, the CBI also arrested her, detaining her in Tihar jail. Earlier, on April 9, a Delhi court had postponed its decision on Kavitha’s interim bail plea, which she had filed citing her son’s upcoming examination.

Apart from K Kavitha, the ED has also detained Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, his party colleague and former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, along with several liquor businessmen and others in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.

Arvind Kejriwal was apprehended by the ED on March 21 in relation to a money laundering inquiry concerning alleged irregularities in the policy.

On April 9, the Delhi High Court dismissed Arvind Kejriwal’s plea for release from custody, rejecting his assertion of political vendetta amidst the impending Lok Sabha elections. In a recent development, the Supreme Court stated last Friday that it might entertain arguments on Arvind Kejriwal’s interim bail on May 7 due to the ongoing 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

On April 23, a Delhi court extended the judicial custody of Kejriwal, K Kavitha, and the alleged fund manager for the Aam Aadmi Party’s Goa elections, Chanpreet Singh, until May 7 in connection with the money laundering case linked to the now-defunct Delhi excise policy. Additionally, the Rouse Avenue court prolonged K Kavitha’s judicial custody until May 7 in the CBI case concerning the cancellation of the policy.
