Congress’s Charanjit Channi accuses BJP of using Poonch attack as pre-election tactic
PTC News Desk: Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi ignited controversy on Sunday by suggesting that the recent terrorist attack on an Indian Air Force (IAF) convoy in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district was a premeditated move orchestrated by the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
In his provocative statement, Channi dismissed the attack as a mere political ploy, claiming it to be a calculated stunt by the BJP to sway public sentiment in their favor. He accused the ruling party of callously manipulating such incidents to bolster their electoral prospects, emphasizing that similar tactics were employed during previous general elections.
The attack, which claimed the life of one IAF personnel and left four others injured, unfolded on Saturday evening when terrorists opened fire on the convoy in Sanai village, Surankote. While one injured personnel is reportedly in critical condition, the others are said to be stable.
Responding to the incident, a large-scale search and cordon operation has been launched by joint forces of the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police to apprehend the perpetrators believed to have fled into nearby forests.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi condemned the attack as a cowardly act, expressing sorrow over the loss of life and extending condolences to the family of the martyred soldier. He emphasized the urgent need for the injured personnel to recover swiftly.
