BJP considering ousting Brij Bhushan in Kaiserganj, may field his son instead: Sources
PTC News Desk: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is reportedly considering dropping Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the incumbent Member of Parliament from Kaiserganj, who has faced allegations of sexual harassment from women wrestlers. Sources revealed to India Today TV that the party is contemplating fielding Singh’s son, Karan Bhushan Singh, as his replacement in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The decision comes amid mounting pressure on Brij Bhushan, who served as the president of the Wrestling Federation of India for nearly a decade, following accusations of sexual misconduct by six women wrestlers. The allegations prompted a significant demonstration at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, with top Indian wrestlers like Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia participating.
In response to the outcry, the Delhi Police initiated legal proceedings against Brij Bhushan in June 2023. However, he was subsequently released on bail on July 20, 2023. Currently, a Delhi court is deliberating on whether to press charges against the six-term BJP MP.
With polling scheduled for May 20 in Kaiserganj during the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP leadership appears to be reassessing its candidacy in light of the controversy surrounding Brij Bhushan. As discussions ensue, the prospect of nominating Karan Bhushan Singh as the party’s candidate for the seat gains traction, signaling a potential shift in political strategy amidst ongoing legal proceedings and public scrutiny.
