Indore’s political shakeup: Congress candidate withdraws, joins BJP amidst Lok Sabha race
PTC Web Desk: Indore’s political landscape witnessed a significant turn of events as Akshay Kanti Bamb, Congress candidate for the Lok Sabha elections 2024, made a notable decision on Monday. He formally withdrew his nomination.
The confirmation of Akshay Bamb’s withdrawal came to light following an announcement made by Madhya Pradesh minister and BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya via a social media post accompanied by a photograph of Bamb. Vijayvargiya extended a warm welcome to the erstwhile Congress candidate, signaling his induction into the BJP fold.
The BJP leader’s message, translated from Hindi, conveyed, “Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Indore, Akshay Kanti Bam, is welcome in the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party national president JP Nadda, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, and state president VD Sharma.”

Bamb’s decision to withdraw from the electoral race comes as the Congress had pitted him against incumbent BJP MP Shankar Lalwani for the prestigious Indore Lok Sabha seat. The constituency is set to undergo polling on May 13, making the timing of Bamb’s withdrawal a significant development in the electoral narrative.
In a parallel political scenario, ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in Odisha, BJD’s Soro MLA Parshuram Dhada made headlines by rejoining the BJP. Dhada’s return to the BJP fold, following his earlier resignation from the party, adds a layer of intrigue to the unfolding political dynamics in the state.
Moreover, recent reports also highlight a surge in BJP’s membership from the Sikh community. Notably, on April 27, a sizable contingent of Sikhs, including members of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, announced their allegiance to the BJP. The BJP further claimed that over 1,000 Sikhs had joined the party.
